Painting China——Cultural experience activity
On the afternoon of April 14th, the International Conference Center was filled with the fragrance of ink, laughter, and warm conversation. As part of the "Feeling China" national culture and education brand series, the "Golden Rooster Heralds Spring · Painting and Calligraphy China" 2026 cultural experience activity for international students was brilliantly held. More than 60 international students from 19 countries, under the guidance of Wang Taorun, a National First-Class Artist and a nationally recognized master of art by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, picked up brushes and ground ink to experience the artistic charm of traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy up close.
At the beginning of the event, Mr. Wang Taorun gave a talk on "The Cultural Symbolism of the Auspicious Rooster," vividly explaining the rich connotations of the rooster in traditional Chinese culture from perspectives such as traditional virtues, the spirit of light, and symbols of good fortune. The international students listened with great interest, frequently raising questions, creating a lively and warm atmosphere.
The most anticipated part of the event was the painting and calligraphy experience session. Mr. Wang demonstrated the proper way to hold a brush and the techniques of using ink. With just a few strokes, he vividly captured the spirited posture of a rooster crowing at dawn and spreading its wings to fly, leaving the students in awe. The international students showed great enthusiasm for learning. With the hands-on guidance of Mr. Wang and his teaching assistant team, they diligently painted their own "auspicious roosters." Amid the interplay of ink and color, and the fusion of water and paper, a variety of uniquely expressive rooster images came to life on paper.
At the end of the event, Mr. Wang selected ten outstanding works and awarded the winners commemorative art albums. The international students expressed that although traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy seem simple—just a brush and a piece of paper—they are actually full of variation and charm. Having the opportunity to learn from a master up close and personally experience the creation of Chinese painting was a truly valuable and unforgettable cultural journey.
